Consolidation of "SUN Interbrew"
On November 10 at a special meeting the shareholders of seven Russian companies of brewing holding "SUN Interbrew" will consider the problems of amalgamation of companies with "SUN Interbrew" JSC. These data come from the documents of the holding. The amalgamation will affect "Povolzhie" JSC (Volgograd region), "United breweries" JSC (Moscow region, Klin), "Ivanovo brewing company" CSC, "Perm brewing company" JSC, "United plants of "SUN Interbrew"", "Centre of drinks" Ltd. (Novocheboksarsk, Republic Chuvashiya) and "Star distribution Company" Ltd. It is supposed, that "SUN Interbrew" will be registered in the Moscow region, in Klin. The main purpose of amalgamation in the unified company is the decrease of tax payments volume. All plants of the company can use tax privileges granted for the processors of agricultural production, and not just those, which have own malthouses. "Bavaria" JSC (ST.-PETERSBURG) is the only enterprise which is not included into the process of amalgamation of the Russian plants of "SUN Interbrew" holding. In Ukraine "SUN Interbrew" possesses three brewing companies: "Yantar" JSC, "Rogan" JSC, "Desna" CSC.

In decilitres it is 43 million 487 thousand. In September the enterprises of the company produced 4 million 354 thousand decilitres of beer, that is 20,7 % more, than in September of the last year. We should remind, that "SUN Interbrew Ukraine" possesses Kharkov brewery "Rogan", Chernigov brewery "Desna" and Nikolaev brewery "Yantar". For six months of the current year the share of the company in the Ukrainian beer market increased up to 33,8 % against 30,6 % for the same period of 2002.
A new specialized complex of "Radomyshl beer and soft drinks plant" for production of the unfiltered wheaten beer was officially opened.
On October 17 in Radomyshl, Zhitomir region, an official inauguration of the new specialized complex of "Radomyshl beer and soft drinks plant" for the production of the unfiltered wheaten beer was held. The representative of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church father Vladimir consecrated new production. Speaking at the inauguration of the plant, the head of the supervisory council of "Radomyshl beer and soft drinks plant" Mr. Rodin has marked: "the decision to enter beer market was made in 2001. After complex researches, we came to a conclusion, that our customer will sure demand genuine domestic Weissbier, as this segment of the market remained completely empty. However it was impossible to make a real wheaten beer corresponding to the classic standards on the customary equipment. Therefore in the beginning of the last year we began to build this specialized complex for the production of the unfiltered wheaten beer. Several British companies showed interest in the development of our project and made the investments in new production. Thus the total amount of investments in the new plant amounted to more than 15 millions Euro. Today we can safely state, that the companies of such level for the production of wheaten beer in do not exist Ukraine. Now we start the first line of the plant. But already in the near future we plan to start the following turns and to reach general productivity of more than 5 millions decilitres annually; and we are sure, that "Pshenichnoe Etalon" will be a true standard of the present wheaten beer brewed in Ukraine. " In his turn the director of "Radomyshl beer and soft drinks plant" Mr. Kimlyk has pointed out: " Today I can safely say, that this plant is unique in Ukraine. The most up-to-date, high-performance equipment for the production of wheaten beer here is installed here. We use raw materials of the highest quality and stick to the long experience of German brewers. All the processes of production are automated. The obtaining and storage of raw, wort boiling, yeasting, process of fermentation, maturing and bottling of beer is under the strict technological control, in the ideal microbiologic medium. Such known partners as KHS - world leader in production of the equipment for the beer industry, Ziemann Company, GEA Westfalia Separator, Grasso took part in the equipping of the plant".
Brewers go across Ural
This summer at once three large brewing companies - "Sun Interbrew", "Efes" and "CEBC" - declared, that they plan acquisition of new enterprises. And the greatest interest is shown in the market of Ural, Siberia and Far East, where the consumption of beer grows much faster, than in the European part of Russia. However it will be not easy for the companies to realise these plans: there are not so much independent breweries, corresponding to the world standards behind Ural. The interest of the brewers to the beer market of Ural, Siberia and Far East is not accidental. In conditions of a gradual saturation of the market of the European part of Russia the growth rate of beer production steadily drops. The majority of the experts consider, that the increase of production volume of this year will make approximately 6 % of last year indexes. Thus maximum growth (7-8 %) will happen just in the markets of Siberia and Far East. In the European part of Russia, where the population now drinks practically 80 % of produced beer, the growth of consumption level will hardly exceed 3-4%. Now, for example, in Moscow the consumption of beer exceeds 60 litres per capita annually, that is 7-15 litres more, than on average in Russia. These tendencies were obvious two years ago, when the brewers for the first time realized, that the 20% growth of production would not last eternally. In the outcome the largest players began to think about the creation of own manufacturing platforms behind Ural as the transfer of production allows to save. So, according to Andrey Sterlin the head of the company "Business - Analytica", with reference to Siberia the companies, beginning to produce beer at the places of its realization, can save on logistics and transportation up to 10%. And the brewers went across Ural. First of all it concerns "Krasny Vostok", which opened this year the enterprise in Novosibirsk (its power is 30 millions decilitres), and "Baltica" constructing the plant in Khabarovsk (10 million decilitres). Next year the branch of "Ochakovo" beer and soft drinks plant" Moscow will begin it activity in Tyumen (up to 15 millions decilitres annually). At last local producers began to accumulate volumes of production. First of all it is Omsk "Rosar" (belongs to "Sun Interbrew") and "Pikra" ("Baltic Beverages Holding"). Despite of such quantity of the projects, free place in the beer market of Siberia still exists. So, by estimations of UFG, the capacitance of the beer market of Siberia is 80 million decilitres annually, and the manufacturing powers in the region with allowance for not opened plants make 72 million decilitres. All participant of the market understand it very well. Last summer some largest operators of the market declared about their intentions to initiate with more close development of Siberia and Far East. So, the head of "Sun Interbrew" in Russia Joe Strella declared, that the company plans to buy two plants in Eastern and Western Siberia. Mr. Strella did not specify what these plants are. However he marked that the company is interested in plants with the power of about 10 million decilitres of beer annually. The head of the brewing company "CEBC" (created by the shareholders of "Wimm-Bill-Dann" in 2001) Tatyana Kosheeva also declared about possible acquisition of two firms, but one of them will be in the south of Russia. The management of "Efes" said about the plans to buy one more company (also with the power of 10 million decilitres) during the ceremony of inauguration of a plant in Rostov. As the representatives of the company mark, "Efes" plans to reach a bulk volume of the production in Russia about 80 million decilitres while available powers (the plants in Moscow, Ufa and Rostov) are capable to master only 52 million decilitres. At last, already in spring of this year it has become known, that the specialists of one of the most ambitious participants of the beer market - "Heineken" are looking for a new manufacturing site. Let's remind, that the Dutch concern has only one asset in Russia - "Gallantly" brewery, renamed in "Heineken Brewery". It is understood, that such situation hardly suits the Dutchs, who already negotiated with the holders of "Ochakovo" and "Krasny Vostok " about the purchase of their companies. However both Moscow and Kazan brewers do not hurry to sell the companies. In this situation "Heineken" will be compelled to build its own enterprise, or to prolong negotiations on purchasing with other market participants. But at the company they say, that they are interested first of all in central Russia. Nevertheless, according to the information of "The Dengi", this summer the representatives of "Heineken" also visited some Siberian companies. The orientation of the mentioned companies just on purchasing instead of building is clear. As the analyst of "Troyka Dialog" Andrey Ivanov says, "purchase of a built enterprise though requiring upgrade is possible right now and building takes as a minimum 1,5 year". Now the sharing of the Siberian beer market is in its vertex and starting creation of new powers brewers can simply remain behind the competitors. The second important aspect is that purchasing any regional firm the new holders also receive brands, and formed dealer network. The problem is that there are not so much independent and modern plants with powers of 7-10 million decilitres in Siberia. The interrogated experts could call only two of such companies - Barnaul and Irkutsk beer and soft drinks plants. And Oleg Tinkov, the owner of the company "Tinkoff", considers, that such enterprises actually do not exist: " In the regions there remained only scrap metal with rare exception". By the way "Tinkoff" also has the plans on development of the market of Eastern Siberia. But this company is legibly aimed at building of powers "from zero point". As Mr. Tinkoff says, the problem of logistics is very relevant for the market participants, making "Vodka substitute", that is a beer in a price segment lower than 20 roubles for litre ". The obvious deficit of powers has resulted in overestimation of the cost of available enterprises. Understanding, that the demand for manufacturing powers is high, the holders of independent breweries simply raised prices. Neither sellers nor buyers comment negotiations. However in the informal conversation the adviser of one of the largest brewing companies, illustrating the situation noted: "if not the price even in summer we could have purchased something". And according to Andrey Ivanov, " large brewing companies with federal brands can not understand, why they should purchase regional plants much more expensive than they actually cost ". Nevertheless the majority of the experts are sure, that in the end the large companies will pay as much as the owners of the regional companies will ask. As one of the specialists marked, "saving now it is possible to lose very much in one year or so". As an example it is possible give "Heineken" being late to the main division of the beer market it was necessary to pay unprecedented $ 330 millions for "Bravo" company which became a kind of admission ticket to Russia.
"Slavutich" beer and soft drinks plant" (Zaporozhye), which belongs to the Scandinavian holding
"Baltic Beverages Holding AB", began production of a new kind of beer "Weiss" - unfiltered with addition of wheaten malt. As the general director of "Slavutich" beer and soft drinks plant" Peter Peretiatko said to the journalists on Wednesday, the sales of a new kind of beer would make from 7 up to 10 percents from the total amounts of beer sales of the trademark "Slavutich". Under the data of marketing department of "Slavutich" beer and soft drinks plant" in retail this beer can be purchased at the price from 1 hrivna 85 kopecks up to 2 hrivnas ($ 0,35 - $ 0,37).
